Assessment Mission, Goals & Objectives

Mission: Assessment at NMSU fosters an institutional culture of assessment that inspires continuous improvement in teaching effectiveness and student achievement. 

Goals

  • Goal 1: Empower the campus community to design assessment processes that leverage evidence of effectiveness to drive data-informed decision-making.
  • Goal 2: Foster integrated and collaborative assessment initiatives across all campus programs and administrative units. 
  • Goal 3: Advocate institutional policies and practices that embed meaningful assessment into the framework of NMSU. 
  • Goal 4: Communicate the impact of assessment initiatives to internal and external stakeholders to demonstrate our commitment to educational excellence.

Objectives

  • Objective 1: Utilize evidence-based data to student learning and environmental impact to guide institutional decision-making regarding policies, pedagogy, and campus practices. 
  • Objective 2: Drive continuous improvement in the student experience by executing a multi-level assessment framework that spans individual courses, administrative units, and the broader institution. 
  • Objective 3: Balance internal assessment efforts to ensure they are meaningful and sustainable for the campus community while maintaining a reputation for excellence among external accreditors and peers. 
  • Objective 4: Establish and adhere to institutional standards that institutionalize meaningful assessment and ensure consistency across departments.
